WOW logo

The World of Wine (WOW) launched in July 2020 and is a collection of cultural, culinary, and retail concepts spread over more than 35,000m2 in the city’s historic wine cellar district.

Located in the historic heart of Gaia, a short distance from the centre of Porto, WOW celebrates culture, the values and history of Portugal and its main industries.

WOW provides visitors with six immersive museum experiences, nine restaurants, bars, and cafes, event spaces, temporary exhibition space, retail outlets, and a wine school.

The seven experiences at WOW are:

The Wine Experience
Porto Region Across the Ages
Planet Cork
The Bridge Collection – 9,000 years of drinking
The Chocolate Story
The Atkinson Museum

Each of the seven two-hour experiences engage and amaze with impressive visual and interactive presentations, historical artifacts all curated by experts in the fields of wine, history and culture. The opening this summer will also see the launch of the WOW Wine School, offering light introduction or more technical immersion courses for wine lovers, connoisseurs, professionals or those looking for experiential travel.

If you’re looking for a coffee, go to ‘Suspiro’, ‘Vinte Vinte Café’ or ‘Maze’. To eat a meal, simply choose one of the different concepts: ‘1828’, the best steakhouse in Portugal, ‘Golden Catch’ for the best fish and seafood dishes from our coast, ‘Root & Vine’ as a Brunch & Dinner, ‘T&C’ as a reflection of the most authentic Portuguese gastronomy, ‘Mira Mira’ with fine dining, ‘Pip’ and ‘Lemon Plaza’ for smaller portions to snack on and ‘VP’ for events and a special Family Brunch on Sundays.

For a glass of wine, rest and relax with the best view over Porto at the ‘Angel’s Share’ wine bar.

At the heart of the district is a large open-air square with panoramic views overlooking the River Douro and Porto’s historic skyline, making it the perfect place to savour the city.

The ideal plan, therefore, is to set aside a whole day to discover WOW. Each visitor can choose the museums they prefer, the restaurants they want to try and complete it with a wine or chocolate workshop. Those who stay until the evening have the reward of watching the daily video mapping show in the central square. In addition, WOW works as a cultural catalyst. It’s worth following the agenda because there are always good reasons to come back.
